Reza Torabi

Born in 1980 in the city of Tabriz, Azerbaijan, in Iran, Reza Torabi began painting at an early age. He attended Fine Art University in Azerbaijan, studying traditional and classical Persian and Azari music as well as honing his artistic skills. Reza had his first one-man show in 2003, followed by many award-winning shows. He began teaching oil painting and performed music on weekends. His life was enveloped in the arts, visuals, and performance, but when the government forbade artistic or musical appearances, he made the decision to relocate to Turkey. In Turkey, Reza found a new-found freedom that allowed him to express himself more fully and experiment with different techniques and subject matter.

His first exhibition in Turkey was a rebirth for Torabi, as he began creating and teaching in various mediums, including oil, acrylic, and ink. His dream, however, was to live and work in the United States. In 2012, with the assistance of the United Nations artistic refugee program, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There, he continues to pursue his passion for art, painting portraits, landscapes, figurative pieces, and abstract works. Reza’s desire to grow, experiment, and expand as an artist keeps his mind and heart focused on his craft.

Additionally, he remains connected to his musical roots, playing music and singing with a group of musicians. Reza Torabi’s artistic journey from Azerbaijan to Turkey and finally to the United States demonstrates his determination to pursue his passion for art and music. His experiences and diverse influences have shaped his artistic style and the range of mediums he employs. Today, his captivating artworks can be found in galleries and exhibitions, where he continues to share his unique artistic vision with the world.
